The Midi: To Tuck Or Not To Tuck?

Q:   I love this skirt and have a few like it in several colors, but since I am more on the ‘plus size’ of things, I can’t tuck things in. Any advice on how to wear a flary midi without tucking in?

A: Hi! Thanks for your question!

The Midi Skirt is surprisingly versatile and can be worn in so many different fashions, on so many different body types.  The length on the beloved Midi is elegant and cool at the same time, and the flared version is particularly forgiving and ladylike.

Nowhere in the “Rulebook” of fashion does it say you absolutely must tuck your top into your midi skirt;  it may be the go-to style for some, but somehow wearing your top out is an off-duty, contemporary alternative and a street-style favorite as well.  You can wear it with a knit, leather top, sweatshirt, modest crop top (like I did Here) or peplum- all sans the tuck.

What I would strongly suggest is trying it out with a jacket or blazer of your choice.  I am a firm believer in the power of a blazer, and all it has to offer to an outfit.  If you are willing to try, you can tuck (or untuck) a top into your midi and throw on the jacket to finish the look.  A blazer (especially one that nips in at the waist) is a great way to create a clean, feminine silhouette and also helps hide any areas that may not be our favorite.  Take a cue from these great fashion forward looks found on the street style front.

Q:  Hi Abby

I see that your wig is a Mazali and there is a sale coming for Mazali Fortune wigs.
Is there a specific line or brand of Mazali that you reccomend or are they all the same?( higher end)

Are you still happy with yours? Would your next wig choice still be a Mazali?

Thank you in advance

A:   Hi!  Thanks for your question.

I have a number of Mazali wigs that I have purchased over the past couple of years, and I have been very pleased with them thus far. I would most certainly purchase another Mazali in the future.  I wear a 20″ Mazali in a color 2, with a wavy texture.  When I go to the Blowout Sales I just grab a bunch of the longest brunette wigs I see and then sift through them.  I arrive about half an hour before they open, because the longer lengths are usually snapped up first. Just make sure you like the quality, length, color, and texture of the hair, before you seal the deal and buy it. Because the price is so right, I use them pretty much every single day without the worry that I might be wearing them down. I also wear them to more formal events, and they definitely stack up next to a more expensive wig.

Just a note: the wigs at the sales are usually uncut, and you will have to bring it to someone who can cut it for you. I am fortunate that my mother has been a shaitel macher for over 20 years and she does all my cuts for all my wigs.

Mazali does have another line called the Mazali Bliss, and they are intended to have fuller hair, of a higher quality, however the sales don’t typically carry the Bliss line.

Q:  Hi Abby,

I REALLY love your style.

ASOS is having 30% off this week, and I see you often recommend the site. Any clothes on the site you would recommend as must haves (I tend to stick to basics and I don’t know how to shop for fashionable clothes while still staying in my “comfort zone”)?

A:  Hi!  Thank you for your question!

ASOS is one of the most useful sites I have come upon, especially for their tznius (modest) fashion options.  Without knowing much about your style, I’ll suggest my best picks and you can email me at if you want further assistance.  I would love to hear from you!

ASOS has a wonderful selection of leather and midi skirts, and those items are my personal favorites.  They are easy to style, and can do no wrong;  they are so fashion-forward and on trend.  Here are a few of the items I am loving right now:

The Full Midi Skirt in Scuba is a beautiful length and fabric; Scuba is a great alternative to the classic fabrics, as it has bit of thickness and stretch to it.  If the scuba feels like it lies outside of your personal comfort zone, you can try the Midi Skirt in Jersey (which I am wearing HERE and HERE), or the WhitePepper PU Skirt if you’re interested in a (faux) leather version.  If you are feeling colorful you can try the Midi Skirt in Blue.  The Leather Midi Pencil Skirt is also one of my favorites and I actually have it, love it and wear it often.  You can keep it simple and chic with just a black or white button down shirt, or you can add some visual interest with a print or pop of color on top.  However you style this versatile piece, I would strongly suggest wearing it with some sort of a heel; the midi length skirt and pump are best friends, and their proportions play off of each other beautifully.  This A-Line Skirt in Faux Leather is another piece I have and you can see me wearing it in this post.  It has a very sharp cut, and don’t be fooled by the fact that it is faux-leather;  The quality is excellent, and the texture makes it special, with a pebbled effect.

I also like this Midi Length Dress as a staple for when you need to throw something on but still look flawlessly chic( there are similar versions, find them Here and Here).  Throwing on a leather jacket with this dress would add a little edge to this girly piece.  I love the juxtaposition between the feminine and rocker aesthetic.  I have this Leather Wiggle Midi Dress in Black and it is an amazing dress at an amazing price, especially for leather.  They make quite a few versions of this Wiggle Dress, and more are always coming out in different colors and fabrics.

I am a huge advocate of the classic staples in your wardrobe, and that includes blazers.  ASOS has great options in many cuts and colors.  I think the most integral versions are, of course, the black and the white blazers.  I really love their Slim Lapel Blazer in White Crepe; the  longer cut of the collar ensure it is more cool rather than corporate, which seems to be some women’s concern when it comes to blazers.  It comes in Black as well, and there are so many other options on the site.

I hope this was of help to you, and Happy Shopping!

P.S. ASOS has a 10% discount for students, and you can sign up HERE!
