This is not going to be my last post on the gold trend this season, mainly because I hope it never gets old, but also due to its versatility and fluidity. A metallic neutral, gold is serving up some major sartorial fodder for us, and I am overusing and abusing this one. Gucci’s 70′s inspired Spring 2016 collection has provided more than enough encouragement and influence, and I’m blaming it all on the fashion house’s gold mules and pleated skirts, along with their colorful lurex knits. It doesn’t hurt that almost every piece is modest for the tznius clad. Love it or not, you can’t deny that gold is the new black .
Most of us have been to a vintage shop or two (or ten), and the treasure to be found is endless. But what if you can’t just get up and run off to a store to hunt through racks and piles of suede, leather, fringe and floral chiffon? The alternative is a surprising trove of those piles waiting to be picked through on the world wide web with just as much success as you would in the real world, with the added benefit of a global reach. You can literally shop vintage pieces in Italy and France, and have it shipped to your door.
The greatest resource I’ve found in online vintage shopping is www.Etsy.com, but you can also try Ebay and Google with similar success. Keywords like ‘secretary dress’, ‘printed silk dress’, ‘silk wrap dress’, ‘leather skirt’, ‘fringe’, ‘tassel’, and ‘Diane Frese’ are a great way to start your search on Etsy. Make sure to filter under the ‘Vintage’ tab and you will open up a quest with hundreds and thousand of results. The best part is that the majority of items are under $150, although designer pieces run for more.
It is upon us. At least from where I am sitting, it is full force winter. This begs the age old question: What’s a modest girl to wear when it’s cold outside? When you have to forgo the seemingly weather appropriate leggings and jeans, so what is left?
Thankfully being warm can also mean looking chic. So double up on your opaque tights, and enjoy the world of winter fashion, full of the prodigiously perfect modest looks every tznius girl should don.
Follow nature’s lead and do as the driven snow: opt for an all-white look, refreshingly classic with a modern twist.
‘Tis the season for scarfs, pumpkin spice lattes, chunky knitted sweaters, and semi-permanent rosy cheeks due to the ever-dipping temps. It is also the season of gifts. You give ‘em, you get ‘em (hopefully). My Gift Guide is a little late, but to be fair, Chanukah was early this year. So I could argue I’m right on time. Thankfully, we’ve been hooked up with a grace period of 8 straight days of candles, dreidels, and chocolate coins, so you have plenty of time to make it up to the people you love. Happy Holidays!
