Most of us have been to a vintage shop or two (or ten), and the treasure to be found is endless. But what if you can’t just get up and run off to a store to hunt through racks and piles of suede, leather, fringe and floral chiffon? The alternative is a surprising trove of those piles waiting to be picked through on the world wide web with just as much success as you would in the real world, with the added benefit of a global reach. You can literally shop vintage pieces in Italy and France, and have it shipped to your door.
The greatest resource I’ve found in online vintage shopping is www.Etsy.com, but you can also try Ebay and Google with similar success. Keywords like ‘secretary dress’, ‘printed silk dress’, ‘silk wrap dress’, ‘leather skirt’, ‘fringe’, ‘tassel’, and ‘Diane Frese’ are a great way to start your search on Etsy. Make sure to filter under the ‘Vintage’ tab and you will open up a quest with hundreds and thousand of results. The best part is that the majority of items are under $150, although designer pieces run for more.
You can create an account and follow specific shops, and receive daily updates on what pieces are new, along with Etsy’s suggestions which are based on your searches and purchases. My favorite shops for vintage include Cult Of Aphrodite Vintage , Tin Roof Vintage , Rolfson Off Duty, Decades , Persephone Vintage, and Luv Stoned Vintage. I found the vintage Givenchy choker posted below for $40 just to give you an idea of what is able to be found on the site.
Happy shopping!
