Black and Navy

By now the alleged fashion faux pas of simultaneously wearing black and navy together has been deemed undeniably antiquated, and completely inaccurate.  Pairing the two creates a fresh, and modern contrast of color, and brings an element of the unexpected, which can prove invaluable when picking your pieces; they don’t need to be detailed or intriguing, simply because the dark disparity of color does all the work.  Subtle, yet effective.  Part of what has been so exciting about fashion recently is the breaking of rules and the license for creativity and expression.  There are not too many sartorial laws that are still applicable at present, and the trends seem to be turning towards a cleaner, unhampered approach to getting dressed.  We are editing our wardrobes to make ourselves happy, rather than to fit a certain mold or style du jour.

I wore this outfit for a Sunday at Barnes & Noble with my kids, and it provided a perfectly comfortable and chic ensemble to chase small children in a teeming bookstore.  The whole outfit felt very 60′s, so I wore my wig with bangs and round oversize sunglasses.

A Modest Lesson In Layering: The Dress

We all do it.  Donning the Sweater and Shirt pairing is fairly popular and a common occurrence.  But you can take it a step further, and trade out these short pieces for the longer dress versions, and create a new way to layer.  I paired it with leather booties and a gold collar under the collar for some edge, and simple detail.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to hang out by The Frock Swap pop-up-shop in Cedarhurst, and try on a few selected outfits from the dynamic duo’s treasure trove of fashion.  Aside for the fabulous frocks, the two sisters behind this designer consignment venture, Chaya and Simi, are pretty fab and fun themselves.  Visiting their spot is like going to play dress up with really good friends.  Friends who just happen to have hoards of incredible articles of clothing and accessories brimming with unique details, and one-of-a-kind allure.  Regrettably my camera did not accompany me, but the Swap sisters got some shots, and while they’re surprisingly good for an iPhone, it is hard to do justice.  The clothing are just too beautiful.  I will be styling my fab find in my next post, Vintage Ventures Part II!

The pieces are extraordinary and Chaya and Simi are a perfect styling pair who literally throw together the most brilliant outfits in a matter of seconds.  To get your own fix of  The Frock Swap, join us Wednesday Night, November 20th at Ohr Naava’s Great Vintage Event, for a night of shopping with them, and many other vintage vendors.  Hope to see you there!

The combination of the soft jersey and the sophisticated pleating on this maxi skirt makes it the perfect item to wear on a Sunday with the kids.  I paired it with this chunky zip-up sweater, with exaggerated moto sleeves, which makes me love it even more.

I will put a link to this skirt if I am ever able to get onto their site; Asos.com is having a huge sale with a 70% markdown, and it seems to be causing hosting issues.  All hail the sale though, and it is a worthwhile venture if you can access it.  Happy shopping!

This One’s For You

In an act of what felt like self preservation at the time, I decided to shut down my blog, instinctively turning to the hope that visually receding was the best antidote when faced with antagonization.

After much inspiration, deliberation, and trepidation, I am restoring order and returning to the blogosphere.

I am doing this for one reason.
I had the privilege to experience empathy and kindness in numbers that took me by surprise.  So to the ladies who supported me, whose words brought tears to my eyes, and restored my faith, I thank you.

And this one’s for you.
